lemonade and sunshine

It's been quite a good day today!  It's cooler than the past few days have been, and I decided to treat myself to a pedicure for the first time this year (which is good because that means I can wear open toed shoes to the office :)
And I am at Nomad Cafe finishing my afternoon tea (in the british sense of a light supper around 4 or 5ish).
I had the Mediterranean Plate, which has hummus, baba ganoush, pita and olives.  Mmm.  And a nice fresh lemonade.  And did I mention it's not as hot today?

It's actually quite nice, what with the breeze and all.  Anyway, it's nearly Doctor Who time and I musn't be late.

I'm melting, melting! Oh, what a world!

What about 8? Or 10?

From my Schott's Almanac 2008 Day-per-Page Desk Calendar:

Hours for Sleep:
Nature requires six;
Custom seven;
Laziness nine;
and Wickedness eleven.

I don't know where this originates, but I think the sleep therapist I quoted a while back might have something to say about that.  Of course I like 8 hours of sleep, so I seem to be off the hook in the little rhyme above.

Quote of the Day - May 13th

Good morning!  Here's a funny quote - one which I, of course, laugh at quite a lot.

'What is the use of a book,' thought Alice, 'without pictures or conversation?'
- Of course by Lewis Carroll

I need to re-read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass one of these days.

Surprise!

It's me again.  I can't believe I haven't posted in a week.  What's wrong with me?!?! Oh. Right.  We don't know yet.

Anyway, I have been reading a lot, and watching cheesy TV, and playing Scrabulous . . . all in the attempt to distract myself from the worrying. Which I said I wouldn't talk about.  And there I just went and wrote it down.  Geez.  I am pretty unsuccessful at that not worrying and not talking about worrying thing, aren't I.  I suppose, then, I could mention that despite still having strange symptoms, the doctors have been able to cross several things off the list and they were several things that were more worrying than others, so now I can worry slightly less.  And that's good.

On an unrelated note, I am going to the chiropractor today and will be feeling better afterwards because of the wonky spot in my lower back that's sore and definitely misaligned.  That spot was due to a slip and fall on the ice in MN several years ago (have I been out here nearly 5 years now?  okay, then it was more than several, let's call it 6 or 7 years ago) which I re-injured doing pilates (my brothers will remember that part - they got to bring things to me when I was in bed loopy on muscle relaxants and painkillers) and which I then pulled in a less dramatic fashion when moving to my current apartment.  I really am accident prone, aren't I?  Rhetorical question, in case you were about to answer that.

Oh, and this surprise hinted at in the title?  It's more for my lovely Minneapolis family & friends, and isn't realy a surprise, but:
I am coming to visit around July 25th to August 2nd-ish. Tickets have yet to be purchased, but the vacation time at work in on the calendar!  And, in an actual surprise to me, my federal tax rebate should be arriving any day now!  Woohoo.  I suppose since I'm going to use it on plane tickets which will bolster the airline industry, I will actually be doing my part to stimulate the economy.  Weird.  And initially I had planned on using it to pay off more bills.  But the bills will still be there, and I will still want to visit my family & friends, so what the hell.

I'll, of course, let you all know when the exact dates are set.  I'd like to stay with someone who has air conditioning, please!  Of course, several of you don't know 100% where you'll be living at that time, due to pending moves, but that's okay.  You should get air conditioning.  I am now a delicate Californian who can't handle extreme heat or cold *wink*.  I will wilt in a MN summer.

But, Oh!, am I ever looking forward to a good thunderstorm!  They just don't happen in the Bay Area.  I miss the way the clouds mass up, roiling about all bruised blue and green, and suddenly drench you with fat droplets of rain, and the lightning puts on a show, and the thunder brings back memories of being 3 years old and wanting to go hide under the bed until it was all over!  Oh yeah!  No tornadoes, though, please, mmmkay?
